Shabbat is a day with the rule to not work.
Work is a uniquely human experience.
Work exists because we labor.
Days don’t exist everywhere,
they occur on spinning planets,
and the 7-day week exists in our language.
However, Space is in perpetual shabbat.
The cosmos,
in its violence and emptiness,
just exists
and isn’t working,
stretching infinitely beyond
the seven days of humanity’s week.
The cosmos is in Shabbat.
The cosmos is Shabbat.
And as we develop the technology
to go further into the cosmos,
we will lower our workload as well,
Until the only thing left to do is
enjoy each other, learn, and eat.
Shabbat Shalom!
